Black Couple Adopts Three White Kids, Saying ‘Families Don’t Have to Match’

After many failed attempts to conceive, a married couple felt destined to be an aunt and uncle. An unexpected call, however, changed their lives.

Parental joy is precious and often elusive. Many couples long to be parents, and fostering and adoption can complete their families. Adoption is always an option, and unconventional families are just as beautiful as traditional ones. Sadie and Jarvis Sampson’s story shows that love binds people together.

The Sampsons missed a family trip to Mexico due to work exhaustion. Sadie forgot her sister’s life jacket and decided to drop it off. On the way, her friend asked if they’d consider fostering or adopting a child. Initially hesitant, Sadie listened as her friend explained further.

A week later, the couple was asked to foster a child for six to twelve months, which turned into an adoption request. Meeting their son in the NICU, the Sampsons were overjoyed. Ezra Lee’s adoption was finalized in October 2020, filling their lives with happiness.
