Christina Aguilera broke down in tears last night during a powerful, stripped-down performance of “Beautiful” at the 2024 GLAAD Media Awards, where she was honored with the Advocate for Change Award.

The five-time Grammy winner, known for her powerhouse vocals and unapologetic advocacy, could barely finish the song as she stood in front of a crowd filled with LGBTQ+ activists, many of whom credit her music with saving their lives.

The emotional moment came after a heartfelt speech in which Aguilera reflected on her 20-year journey as an ally. “When I sang ‘Beautiful’ in 2002, I never imagined how many people would hold onto it like a lifeline,” she said, her voice trembling. “To the queer kids who told me this song gave them hope—you’re the reason I keep fighting.”
