I Got Stuck in a Snowstorm with My Work Enemy, and I Couldn’t Even Imagine Where It Would Lead — Story of the Day

Stuck in a snowstorm with my longtime rival Eric, our tension reached a breaking point. We had to face our unresolved issues when I fell through the ice on a lake. Struggling to hold onto the ice, my strength waned, and I could see Eric’s silhouette in the storm, seemingly ignoring my desperate cries for help.

“Eric! Please help me!” I shouted, but instead of assisting, he walked away. My heart sank—was he really going to let me drown?

Despite the freezing water numbing my limbs, I saw Eric return, this time with a rope. He anchored one end to a tree and, inching across the ice, pulled me to safety. Once inside the house, he helped warm me by the fire, his touch tender despite our past animosity.

“I thought you’d leave me,” I said, shivering.

“I don’t hate you,” Eric replied. The truth about our past came out, and in the warmth of our shared moment, old feelings resurfaced.
