My Son Told Me He Bought Me a Cottage in the Countryside – But When He Took Me There, I Went Pale

My son Michael recently surprised me with a so-called cottage in the countryside, but it turned out to be a nursing home. He’d sold my home without my knowledge, claiming it was for my own good due to some minor memory issues. His actions were devastating.

For context, I’ve been a single dad since my wife passed away when Michael was ten. We’ve always been close, and I’ve been proud of the man he became. Yet, this betrayal has shaken me. Michael revealed he sold the house to cover gambling debts and that his supposed concern was just a cover-up.

After discovering the truth, I fought to get my home back with the help of an old friend. Michael has since apologized, claiming he’s working on his addiction and wants to make amends. I’m torn between wanting to forgive him and fearing he might repeat his mistakes. What should I do?
