The teen idol of the 50s who saved his twin boys in the mysterious plane accident that led to his own death

Ricky Nelson, the iconic teen pop star, captivated audiences for years with his charm and talent. Born on May 8, 1940, in Teaneck, New Jersey, he rose to fame through the hit sitcom “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet,” created by his parents Ozzie and Harriet Nelson. Despite his success, Ricky had a tumultuous relationship with schooling, opting out of college due to his burgeoning income from music.

His musical journey began with hits like “I’m Walking,” catapulting him to stardom. He married Kristin Harmon in 1963, and together they had four children. Tragically, Ricky’s fear of flying proved prescient when, shortly before a flight, he decided against bringing his sons on board. The plane later caught fire, claiming his life and those of other passengers.

Three decades later, the cause of the fire remains a mystery. Despite speculation, including rumors of drug use, Ricky’s foresight saved his sons. His legacy lives on through his sons’ music careers, a tribute to their beloved father.
