Recognize her? Better sit before you learn her true identity…

Born on June 16, 1943, in New York City, Joan van Ark’s journey in the entertainment industry was not predestined, as her parents had no ties to showbiz. However, her encounter with actress Julie Harris during her teenage years in Denver changed her life’s trajectory. With Harris’s encouragement, Van Ark secured a scholarship to the esteemed Yale Drama School, becoming only the second woman to enroll.

Transitioning from theater to television, Van Ark found fame in shows like “Temperature’s Rising,” “Spider-Woman,” and “Days of Our Lives.” However, her breakthrough came with the role of Valene Ewing in “Dallas,” which led to her iconic portrayal in its spin-off, “Knots Landing.” Despite initial hesitations, Van Ark’s husband and the show’s creator convinced her to accept the role.

After 13 seasons and 327 episodes, Van Ark left “Knots Landing,” ready for new challenges. She later appeared on “The Young and The Restless” before retiring from on-screen roles. With a net worth of $10 million, Van Ark remains an icon in the industry, recently being inducted as a life member of The Actor’s Studio.
