In 2012, Aimee Copeland, a 24-year-old grad student at The University of Georgia, embarked on a fateful adventure with friends, attempting a zipline over a lake. Tragically, the cable snapped, causing Aimee to fall towards a cliff, resulting in the loss of her leg. The ordeal took a darker turn as doctors discovered a life-threatening infection—flesh-eating bacteria had invaded the wound. Facing possible death, Aimee underwent 11 surgeries and extensive rehabilitation, ultimately losing both hands and legs.

Despite the immense challenges, Aimee embraced her new reality, sharing a powerful message on social media about self-acceptance and resilience. In a bikini on the beach, scars and amputations proudly on display, she declared the beauty in imperfections. Aimee’s journey inspired thousands online.

Today, in 2023, Aimee Copeland is a passionate advocate for amputee and disability rights, engaging in public speaking and pursuing a PhD in psychology at the University of West Georgia.
