The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has begun issuing advisories for Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, which is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Helene later today or tonight.

Helene is forecast to form in the northwestern Caribbean and become a hurricane as it moves toward the Florida Panhandle and West Central Florida by Thursday. Forecasters warn it could reach Category 2 or 3 intensity, bringing strong winds, storm surge, and heavy rain across Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.

Disorganized thunderstorms are predicted to consolidate, forming a circulation center. Once organized, Helene is expected to track through the Yucatán Channel and intensify in the Gulf of Mexico.
