Canada’s new prime minister issues scathing warning to Donald Trump

Tensions between the U.S. and Canada have reached a boiling point—and they’re getting personal.

In a fiery address, newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney took direct aim at President Donald Trump, intensifying an already strained relationship between the two countries. A former banker with no prior political experience, Carney led the Liberal Party to a stunning comeback victory, just months after it seemed on the brink of collapse.

Supporters roared at a packed Ottawa arena as CBC projected a Liberal win. In his first speech, Carney, 60, warned Canadians of growing U.S. pressure. “America wants our land, our resources, our water—our country. Never,” he declared. “President Trump is trying to break us so America can own us. That will never happen.”

The remarks came weeks after Trump floated the idea of Canada becoming the 51st state, mocked former PM Justin Trudeau as “Governor of Canada,” and falsely claimed the U.S. spends $200 billion annually supporting Canada.

A trade war and rising tariffs have sparked nationalist sentiment north of the border. As Carney steps into power, he faces a turbulent road ahead—one defined by resistance, resolve, and a vow to protect Canadian sovereignty at all costs.
