My Family Left Grandma Alone at a Restaurant to Ditch the Check—Too Bad They Messed with the Wrong Granddaughter

My grandma wanted a quiet birthday dinner, but the family had other plans. They booked an expensive steakhouse and, as I soon overheard, schemed to make me pay the bill, assuming I’d cover the over $800 tab.

When the check came, they all claimed they couldn’t afford it, leaving me to pick up the slack. I decided to let them believe I would, but instead, I went to the manager and, with his help, ensured they would be billed for their share. They abandoned Grandma, who was left sitting alone at the table. After the meal, Eric, my college buddy, made sure they would pay, and soon, the phone calls began. My family was frantic, accusing me of ruining the night. But Grandma and I had a peaceful, memorable evening. Next year? Just the two of us, no drama.
