The U.S. Secret Service shot a man during an armed confrontation near the White House early Sunday morning. Officers encountered the armed man near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, after receiving information about a suicidal individual heading to D.C. from Indiana.
At midnight, Secret Service members found a car matching the man’s description and observed a person nearby. When officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm, leading to an armed confrontation and shots being fired.
The suspect was hospitalized, and their condition remains unknown. No Secret Service personnel were injured. The Metropolitan Police Department is leading the investigation.
President Trump, who was not at the White House during the incident, has pledged to release reports on prior assassination attempts against him.
