Stories That Show Our Parents Aren’t Superheroes—But They’re Close

Our parents may not have comic book superpowers, but their love, kindness, and care make them real-life heroes. Today, I’m sharing a story about my dad’s quiet love for my husband, even though he didn’t always show it.

The Story:

My dad never liked my husband and thought I deserved someone better. On my wedding day, he asked repeatedly, “Are you sure you want this? Are you sure he’s the one?” I assured him, “One day, you’ll see his good side.”

Last week, my dad had a stroke. When I told my husband, he was at work preparing for an important meeting. Without hesitation, he canceled it and rushed to be by my side, supporting me and my family.

Later, I went to my parents’ house to gather some things for my dad while he was in the hospital. I opened a drawer and found something unexpected: photos of my husband, along with pictures of our kids. My dad only kept photos that were truly special to him.

This discovery showed me that, over time, my dad had grown to accept and love my husband, even though he didn’t say it out loud. His first instinct may have been wrong, but I’m glad to know that he came to appreciate the man I married.
