Urgent Warning: Keep Windows Shut to Stop the Spider from Entering Homes

UK residents are being advised to keep windows closed around the clock as the venomous False Widow spider enters its most active mating period this August.

Dr. Tom Elwood, a leading spider expert, warns that male spiders are now actively seeking mates and may enter homes through open windows, vents, or drains. While not deadly, their bite can cause significant pain similar to a wasp sting.

The False Widow – Britain’s most dangerous native spider – is increasingly found in homes. Its venom can trigger severe swelling, burning sensations, and even fever in some cases, with multiple medical reports confirming these reactions.

To protect homes, experts recommend: keeping windows shut day and night for the next month, weekly cleaning of window frames (where webs easily stick), and sealing cracks around doors and pipes.
