New FBI leadership has launched an investigation into the origins of a decade-old plan to infiltrate Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign using two female undercover agents in a “honeypot” operation.
Initiated in 2015 by then-FBI Director James Comey, this covert operation was revealed by a whistleblower in a protected disclosure to the House Judiciary Committee last year, with the story first reported by The Washington Times in October.
The “honeypot” operation involved female agents pretending to show romantic interest in Trump’s campaign staff to gather information. Under current FBI leadership, including Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino, efforts are underway to locate these agents. The operation was separate from “Crossfire Hurricane” and appeared to be a “fishing expedition” targeting Trump without a specific crime. The investigation was eventually shut down after a photograph of one agent was about to be published.
