Am I Wrong for Teaching My Father-in-Law a Lesson after He Tried to Skip Out on the Bill?

When Carmen’s father-in-law, Jerry, invited her and Leo out for dinner, the couple was excited. Known for his penny-pinching, Jerry made it sound generous but handed the bill to Leo, claiming he lost his wallet. The couple decided to teach him a lesson.

Last weekend, Jerry invited us to a fancy restaurant. “It’s time we enjoy a good meal,” he said. We dressed up and anticipated a great evening.

The restaurant was exquisite, and Jerry chose a fancy place. He chatted about our jobs and plans. We ordered, and Jerry mentioned wanting to visit Hawaii for a change of scenery.

Dinner went smoothly until Jerry “lost” his wallet. “No big deal, Dad,” Leo said. The next morning, a photo revealed Jerry’s wallet in his pocket. We laughed and planned payback.

The following weekend, we invited Jerry to a lavish restaurant. When the bill arrived, Leo and I pretended to forget our wallets. Jerry reluctantly paid, looking stunned. Afterward, we revealed our plan. Jerry apologized, promising not to deceive us again. We enjoyed ice cream, smiling, knowing the lesson was learned.
